As you will hear in the upcoming Episode 40, we are running a holiday contest.
There will be one contest starting each week for the month of December — the prize for each contest will be a $25 Best Buy gift card. Even though each contest will start 1 week staggered, all contests will end at the same time during our last show of the month.
The first contest is a story contest. We want to hear about your holiday mishaps. Think National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. The stories must be true, and your own (plagiarism will not be eligible for winning) — but beyond that we want your creative story-telling style to come through. Stories are confined to the winter holiday season (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, all other ethnic/religious holidays occurring in the same time frame). Some of the finalists may be read on an upcoming episode of Uncompressed and the winning story will be picked at the end of the month.
Please keep all entries to 1 page or less, and send all submissions to uncompressedshow@gmail.com. You MUST read our disclaimer before entering, and the assumption will be made that all submitters have done so.
Thanks for listening to Uncompressed — now start writing!

Short show this week as I was the only one in the studio. Despite a lack of hosts, we have a very full news report this week by Lynn Richter, which lends itself to some thoughts on the upcoming Apple “iPhone”, the new DS MP3 player, broken Wii straps, and the new Tenacious D movie.
Hopefully we can get everyone rounded up for a big push into the holiday season. I take some of the blame for this one as I had to take my brother back up to Minneapolis this weekend — so the recording date got pushed back.

The gaming world is worked up into a frenzy over the launch of both the Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3. Since we are a geek life podcast, we explore the launch day drama — focusing mostly on the Wii as it was the more availible of the two machines. Not only do we cover the launch details, but our good friend Tyler McCall stops by the studio to give us a full report on what playing the new console is actually like.
We didnt discuss it on this podcast, but we have a December promotion coming up in which you could take home some goodies for the holiday season; watch this space for further details!

Neverwinter Nights was one of the most beloved games in the history of the Dungeons and Dragons franchise. This is quite a feat when you consider the franchise is one of the most established, with PC games dating back to the early 80’s. In fact, one of the earliest video game memories I have is of playing DnD on my Tandy HX1000 – where you were an “X” fighting pound signs (#) and picking up the “phat loot” ($). My how we have come a long way with Bioware and Obsidian’s latest offering in Neverwinter Nights 2.
NWN2 (as it shall henceforth be referred to) is much in the same vein as the original NWN; it so closely resembles its predecessor, that throughout the game it often felt like I was playing a massive expansion instead of an entirely new game. This isn’t a bad thing, per say, but when you consider that an updated engine, and rule set, were supposed to be the games strongest selling points, it leaves gamers a bit disappointed.

This week our virtual studio is packed to the gills as our new Sunday schedule allows for a plethora of guests. Several in-depth gaming discussions this week including a complete look at Guitar Hero 2, and a discussion of this week’s Nintendo Wii & Sony Playstation 3 launches. Some other conversations include the GeForce 8800 transistor SNAFU, and the introduction of personal domain names in Vista.
We want to thank everyone who continues to tune in, we love some of the emails we have been getting lately, and encourage the rest of you to participate!

Thom is back in the virtual studio for U* 36. Yet another slow news week in the tech world, but things are definitely starting to pick up on the gaming front. This weeks news features FF2, while the gaming discussion turns to more pressing matters such as “Warm Tea”.
This is the first recording session in our new Sunday timeslot, and we are still getting adjusted to things. Also, because the news was done thinking the show was going to be last week Wednesday — its a little stale. But fear not, our little Uncompressedlings, there is still plenty of interesting discussion; not to mention we should have all of these issues worked out soon!

Thought I would stop by and make a quick post so you dont think that we are getting lazy again.
For the past year Uncompressed has been recorded mid-week. I dont know that there was ever a rhyme or reason to this — its just when we decided to do it. The last week or two it has been difficult to get people together for recording (hence me doing the show alone last week) so in an [obvious] revelation it was decided that we should move the recording day to Sundays.
We are hoping that this will allow a CONSISTENT recording/release day — which is something we have been lacking up to this point. Also, the show is often inconsistent due to people being tired from working all day, so hopefully Sundays will lend themselves to a better rested and more entertaining crew.
So! look for U* to start being released on Sunday nights/Monday mornings. Episode 36 will be coming out this weekend; some of the news stories may be a little stale for a week or so until we get this whole process synced up.
Thanks for listening, October was a great month — stay tuned, and spread the word!!!
Tony out.

Short show this week as the virtual studio was a bit empty. This week’s show also marks the one year anniversary of Uncompressed. All of us here at U* want to extend a huge “thank you” to everyone out there listening — when we first started this, we never thought after a year we would still be going and have such great listeners. What started out as an experiment of sorts has really turned into something that we are proud of — and we hope you are too.
This weeks show is a bit light on the news as there wasn’t much going on out there — but there is a bit of interesting stuff surrounding Lik Sang, and a couple of reviews have been thrown in for good measure. Enjoy!

The U* train keeps on rolling with this latest edition of Uncompressed. This weeks show covers Vista licensing, BF2142 Spyware, WoW trojans, and the coolest Sony commercial you will see this week! This show also features an audio question sent in to us by Tyler McCall; we would like to encourage our listeners to call in — all of the information is over in the right sidebar. So, without further ado…
