Uncompressed Episode 39
Short show this week as I was the only one in the studio. Despite a lack of hosts, we have a very full news report this week by Lynn Richter, which lends itself to some thoughts on the upcoming Apple “iPhone”, the new DS MP3 player, broken Wii straps, and the new Tenacious D movie.
Hopefully we can get everyone rounded up for a big push into the holiday season. I take some of the blame for this one as I had to take my brother back up to Minneapolis this weekend — so the recording date got pushed back.

My main portable MP3 player right now is my cell. I have a LG VX 8300. I am looking for a good set of headphones and currently play it over the speakerphone speakers.
I listen to a lot of podcasts and music while I drive instead of traditional radio.
I could get a bluetooth headphones (there are some nice ones coming out soon) that look good. It will be interesting to see the future, but really, I expect your next cell will have a MP3 player built into it. It might not be a 300 gb drive, but flash mem is gotting great. I have a 1gb microSD card in it and it works great, especally considering the low bitrate most podcasts are at.

Honestly, I dont mind having one device that “does it all” but what I was trying to get at is that when I already have 5 other devices that play MP3s, the ability to play an MP3 on the 6th device isnt a selling point to me.
Same thing with the DVD feature on the Wii; people are upset it wont play DVDs, but I already have like 15 other devices that play them — so DVD playback isnt a selling point to me anymore on pretty much any device.
Thanks for the comment!
Oh, and if you find a decent sounding set of bluetooth headphones let me know — all the ones I have tried up to this point are crap. I either use the earbuds for my ipod while on the go, or a set of Sony noise canceling headphones while im at home.

Good show, Tony. I agree with you that companies need to stick to making devices that work well for what they are intended, and stay away from trying to do everything else. Look at the iPod! It doesn’t try to be anything but a mp3 player… well it used to only be an mp3 player. I have no need for an mp3 player combined with anything like a cell phone or my DS.
I love that video of the dude breaking the Wiimote strap. When he realizes his game is still going on, does he swing with any less intensity? No! Even though his hands are sweaty, his game of tennis is far more important than what looks like a rather expensive TV… lol.
