Uncompressed Episode 36
Thom is back in the virtual studio for U* 36. Yet another slow news week in the tech world, but things are definitely starting to pick up on the gaming front. This weeks news features FF2, while the gaming discussion turns to more pressing matters such as “Warm Tea”.
This is the first recording session in our new Sunday timeslot, and we are still getting adjusted to things. Also, because the news was done thinking the show was going to be last week Wednesday — its a little stale. But fear not, our little Uncompressedlings, there is still plenty of interesting discussion; not to mention we should have all of these issues worked out soon!

Hi Guys - Good show!
I am sorry I could not make it for the show but I will be there in the virtual studio next Sunday, Holla! In any case I am loving Firefox 2.0 and I am really enjoying the latest that Firefox has to offer.
The spell check rules and is really helpful, for instance the message window I am writing this comment has no spell check ability, not any more, Firefox can let me know I misspelled a word as I am typing, COOL!
And now that I got the DOM Inspector installed correctly (thanks Thom!) I can easily investigate anything that is going on with a particular web page and it has helped me tremendously as I work on a seven website redesign for my firm.
Tony, you mentioned that Firefox 2.0 crashed on you a few times and I have had it crash a few times as well, I am loving the auto tab restore feature which loads my tabs for me after a crash. At least when Firefox crashes it’s not so bad!
That GH2 video was awesome! I can’t wait!
Peace!

Last night while recording Thom mentioned something about extentions, so today I removed all of the ones that I wasnt actually using (sometimes I would install one that looked cool, but wouldnt actually use it)
We will see if this improves my stability — I use the restore feature *too much* right now. Also, sometimes I will have no FF window open, but it wont launch. When I view my task manager it is in the list. I manually kill the process and then it will launch again. This is a pain for me, and would leave users that are not as well versed in computers wondering why their FF is “broken”.

In the past I’ve had the same thing happen to me, Tony. I never could figure out why, but it happens rarely enough for it not to be annoying. The new version of FF doesn’t seem any more unstable than previous ones. The spell check feature is pretty sweet as well.
Thom - you buy too many games. When you have so much electronic media lying around that you don’t have time to get to it all - put down the credit card! We’re going to have to have an intervention or something. Or hey, better idea - send some stuff to me! If you have any DS games you don’t have time to play I’ll check them out for ya and let you know.
Speaking of new DS games - anyone played the Castlevania game for the DS? One of my friends has it and he says it’s pretty cool - I’m going to have to borrow it here before too long and check it out.
Anyways, good show! Hopefully I can be on next week if that’s ok - last show before the Wii and PS3 launch!

Tyler — we would love to have you on. Also, I have Castlevania and loved it. I know Grue had it too, I cant remember his opinion. If you pick it up, don’t expect anything earth-shattering. It plays pretty much like the original Castlevania, or CV3. (im sure like some of the newer ones as well, but I didn’t have a PS or PS2 so I missed a lot of those)
So far FF2 seems better after pulling those extra extensions… We will see as I use it more…

Great show guys. If anyone wants…. you can post the links to my pics on picasa.

I hated Castlevania DS. I didn’t like the old 2D Metroid games for the same reason — too much backtracking. I’d clear out a room, find that I didn’t have whatever magic key or weapon I need to do the next screen, only to turn back and find all the bad guys had respawned again.
Bleh.

I just figured you would have gone out and picked up Castlevania DS since you have a DS. Plus you are the guy who has Gears of War in shrink wrap waiting to be played

Im looking forward to the next CV for the DS — should be out around the first of the year.
In the meantime, there are a lot of good games coming out; speaking of which I just picked up Final Fantasy 3 for my DS.
